Stay Cool: Fabrics for Summer Fun

It's that time of year...

Checking the day's forecast with a sense of dread, staring accusingly at your closet: what is going to make the heat the most bearable today? Trickily balancing sun coverage with ventilation, not to mention bringing your personal style and what you actually WANT to wear into the equation!

If it sounds like I'm being overly dramatic about this, is because I'm of Scottish ancestry - made for the cold and gloom, and incredibly cranky when I overheat. This means I am oh so qualified to design clothing to keep us all cool.

Over the years and MANY conversations with horse girls on the topic, I've found that there is no one-size-fits-all solution: everyone has unique preferences based on their skin type and their climate, as well as personal style. Some would prefer to sweat in a cotton shirt (hey, the wetness keeps you cool!), others prefer synthetic fabrics that immediately wick away any moisture. Some want to be fully covered, others want the least amount of fabric possible.

My own preferences change from day to day, leading to an almost Ouiji Board-like selection of clothes every morning, from linen to bamboo to synthetics. I've compiled a little collection of my top picks for the heat - from airy linens to clever mesh panels and all tank tops in between.

Happy summer adventures, and stay cool out there ;)
