Because isn't true luxury something made just for you?
We proudly offer custom sizing, fabric, style and embroidery options. We believe in making clothing you'll keep and love for as long as possible, and making it feel special and fit perfectly is part of that. Read on below to learn more:
How does your custom sizing work?
When you're shopping, simply select "custom" as your size option, and we'll get in touch with you via email to request measurements. Over ninety percent of our custom sizing requests are sleeve and inseam shortening and lengthening. If you're not fussy on getting this millimeter-precise, we can simply use your height as reference (ie: if you're 5'1, we'll shorten both the body and the sleeve of your long sleeve shirt by 2").
For more complicated customizations, we'll ask for more measurements, and may request a short video call to get more info. It's MUCH easier to do custom fits on our pieces when you already own or have tried on an S&S item. For example, we love getting emails such as "I have your Turnout Turtleneck in a size L and I love it, however it's a bit big in the waist for me." We'll know exactly what to do!
We are happy to accommodate custom requests for adaptive clothing. We keep your measurements, customizations and feedback on file. So if you love your custom fit (which you will), you can easily order it again and again.
Why don't you charge extra for custom sizing?
While doing an alteration on an already-made garment is time consuming, doing that alteration BEFORE the clothing is sewn can take as little as twenty seconds. We don't believe in charging extra for twenty seconds.
If your request is more complicated (ie: you "never can find pants that fit" and require a full custom pattern to be made), we will request to send you a prototype to try on, which is an additional cost of $30-50CAD depending on the complexity.
Can I order something I don't see on your website?
Yes! Our rule is "just ask." We have an extensive archive of styles that are not online. Send us a photo or a description of what you're after, and we'll get back to you with an answer and a quote.
If we can use one of our archive styles as reference, and sew it from a fabric we have on hand, the cost will be just slightly higher than our stock items online. If we need to source special fabric or design you a new style from scratch, the cost will be higher. We will only say "yes" to custom requests that we are confident we can make beautifully, especially if you are not able to come into the studio for fittings.
How about custom embroidery?
We work closely (closely, meaning that we are neighbours with) NightHorse Chainstitch artist Sadie Gilker. Whether you want your initials on a shirt cuff, or a custom portrait of your horse on the back of the jacket, we can make it happen. There is absolutely a creative, artistic element to this service: we'll ask you what thread colour you want and the placement on the garment, but we leave the rest in the trustworthy hands of Sadie.
Custom embroidery is quoted based on size and complexity, and can take up to 5 weeks to ship. Custom embroidered items are final sale.
Can I return a custom item?
Short answer "no" - long answer - "yes." Let us explain. We have an over 95% success rate on our custom pieces, and yes that is considered very impressive. Our system relies on good communication with our clients and accurate measurements provided. While custom clothing may feel like magic - it is actually math (a lot of it).
For long-distance clients who can't come in for fittings, we aim to get your first piece "almost perfect" on the first try. For example, if you're a tall person and you ordered custom sleeve length, you may try on your shirt and think "This is great! I may want the sleeve just a half inch longer on the next one." Let us know, and we'll make a note in your file for your next order. The more custom pieces you order, the more perfect the fit will be.
In the rare instances that a custom piece is really NOT working - ie: you consider it to not be wearable, we will exchange it for a new item or alter your existing one.
